In the same way I began 2018, instead of making resolutions for my new year I'm setting intentions. I'm not resolving to do anything perfectly every single day. Instead, I'm choosing mindsets that will push me in the direction of my goals whether or not I'm able to be my absolute best self every day.

This year feels like it's going to be a challenging one for me already. I started the year with the flu, and coming back to work was significantly more stressful than I anticipated. This means now more than ever I need to be gentle with myself and to keep my focus on the small changes I can make so that each day is hopefully a little better than the last.

First, something I neglected last year that I intend to re-commit to is my daily gratitude journal. Somewhere along the line I let my busy routine and work get in the way of maintaining this habit and I've felt the difference. I feel less present and less intentional now than I did when I was keeping up with this regularly. I know that no matter what is happening in my life, there can always be two minutes of time to reflect on what I'm grateful for each day. (Today, I'm grateful for my body's mobility - I can touch my toes and squat [mostly] and bend and twist in all the ways that keep me healthy)

Second, I intend to try more new things. My mentality has always been that I'll try anything once given the opportunity, but I want to be more proactive about it. I hope to try one new/exciting/scary/weird thing each month, but mostly I want to have a more open mind about new experiences, new people, new foods, new sights, and new feelings.

Lastly, and most importantly, I intend to keep writing here at TNML and to keep thinking about new and awesome ways I can provide value for all of you reading! I have some cool ideas cooked up for the year and I want to give myself a little more freedom to be creative with the format. If there's something on your mind you'd like to read my thoughts on, please let me know! I also want to write more in general, so if you know of anyone who wants a guest post or a ghost writer or if you have a great idea for something but need help getting it off the ground, you know where to find me. Who knows? I may even wind up writing a book someday.

Please fogive the late post (the first of the year no less, shame on me), but I hope to inspire you to think about the year ahead with more intention. 2019 may shape up to be my toughest year yet, but I know if I stay true to who I am and if I keep these intentions in mind at the very least I will have grown and learned some things and that's all I need.

What are your intentions for the year?
