Let's Start in the Middle

It has always struck me as fascinating and almost magical that everything that has ever been written down has started with a blank page. I know this observation has been made by many wiser/more-talented/more-prolific writers than myself, but it remains a truth for me: everything starts with a single word. Anything you've ever thought about beginning comes about as simply as putting a single word on a page - and then another...and another... and before you know it, you've begun.

I won't start at the beginning though. Not that it's contrived or that it's beneath me or that it's uninteresting - none of these things are true. Rather, it's that the beginning is so far from where I am now and the end is nowhere in sight. I am very much in the middle of things and it seems appropriate to embark on this journey from the present moment. (After all, "mindfulness" is one of the newest buzzwords - and rightfully so in my mind, but that's a topic for another post entirely).

I have no idea what this blog is going to become. It may sit here silently in perpetuity. It may develop a modest (and hopefully joyful) following. It may explode. All I know is that it felt like it was time to send my voice out (terrifyingly) into the unknown. I plan to write about amusing anecdotes from my life, ways I've found to cope with the world, words of (what hopefully amounts to) wisdom. I believe in authenticity and that is what I want to achieve here. I want to be authentic for any readers who come across it so that maybe they leave knowing that it's okay to be unashamedly themselves.

There are about a million blogs out there like mine and a million more reasons to read them. I'm only one voice in the multitude that create the utter cacophony that is the internet. I only hope that this reaches one person and resonates with them; that it contributes some fleeting meaning in a life of unpredictable moments.

So here I stand in the middle of everything -

Beginning something.
